September 15 - 16, 2017, John Krige (HSOC), along with Axel Jansen (German Historical Institute, Washington D.C.) and Jessica Wang (Department of History, University of British Columbia), is organizing a workshop in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, on the theme “Empires of Knowledge.” Taking off from the knowledge/power nexus, participants explore the roles of experts in developing knowledge about colonial and putatively post-colonial societies as part of the global cultural, economic, and political agendas of metropolitan centers of power from the late nineteenth century to the present. A representative of Cambridge University Press will be present.

HSOC alumnus and Associate Professor Prakash Kumar is among the invited participants. The B&B Stern Foundation is a contributing sponsor of the workshop.
