LMC Professor Lisa Yaszek is co-organizer, along with Jud Ready of GTRI and Kyriaki Kalaitzidou of MEO, of the forthcoming interdisciplinary workshop, "Converting Materials Science Fiction in Materials Science Fact: Examples and Challenges." The seminar will take place at Georgia Tech on Tuesday, September 19 from 9-1:30, EST. Led by science fiction authors Kathleen Ann Goonan (who also serves as an LMC advisory board member) and Wil McCarthy as well as science fiction critic and materials science engineer Karen Burnham, this workshop will explore the history of materials science in both fiction and fact, asking participants to consider how Georgia Tech might develop the next unrealized material or materials manufacturing technology that has already been predicted by science fiction.
