The Office of Disability Services collaborates with students, faculty, and staff to create a campus environment that is usable, equitable, sustainable and inclusive of all members of the Georgia Tech community. Disability as an aspect of diversity that is integral to society and Georgia Tech. If students encounter academic, physical, technological, or other barriers on campus, the Disability Services team is available to collaboratively find creative solutions and implement reasonable accommodations.

Here are some ways in which students can develop self-advocacy and be successful at Georgia Tech:

  • Be knowledgeable about your disability and how it affects your functioning across domains, cognitively, academically, socially, occupationally, physically, and with independent living. It is also helpful to understand your strengths and weaknesses, compensatory strategies, and learning styles.
  • Self-identify, by locating the Office of Disability Services and disclosing your disability through a request for services.
  • Be able to articulate the accommodations you have been provided to professors.
  • Ask your disability services coordinator questions when you don’t understand something or for help when you run into difficulties. We have a tool belt of strategies and tips to employ and knowledge to help when you need it.
  • Use problem-solving with professors to properly implement accommodations and/or immediately report problems to the Office of Disability Services.
  • Learn about and utilize support services available on campus (e.g academic coaching, tutoring, counseling center).
  • Develop independent living skills.

Please reach out to the Office of Disability Services with any questions.
