GTPD Social Media CenterThe Georgia Tech Police Department (GTPD) was honored by the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police for its use of social media during their annual meeting in Savannah July 25.
“It’s great to be recognized by our peers for our efforts on social media,” said GTPD Chief Rob Connolly. “The students are a big part of our success. Not only do they help us make content decisions about what to post that will connect best with the campus, but they also staff our social media center, offering information to help keep the campus safe.”
The Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police awards the Dr. Curtis McClung/Motorola Award of Excellence annually to departments that implement innovative programs that have an impact on the community and help achieve the department’s mission, goals and objectives.
GTPD established its social media center in spring of 2016. They now employ eight students in the center, which is managed by Officer Joshua Strully, and maintain an active presence on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and reddit.
“We want to continue to grow our use of social media and expand our reach,” Strully said. “We’re looking forward to a great semester and building on the foundation that has been laid.”
