How much summer fun can be packed into two short weeks?

For Tech students enrolled in the full summer semester and registered for fall courses, there will be a short two-week break between semesters. Students staying in Atlanta can make the most of their time by checking off some of these items from their Atlanta “to-do” lists.

To Do in Atlanta: Aug. 5–20

  1. Harry Potter at the Fox Theatre: The Summer Film Festival at the Fox Theatre will be held Aug. 5–13, and the theme is Harry Potter films. Each film from the series will be shown during the week. Viewers may purchase a ticket for a single film or can opt for the eight-film package. Choose your favorite film or see them all.
  2. Braves Game: The Atlanta Braves will play at home Aug. 8–9 and Aug. 18–20. Catch a game at SunTrust Park for as little as $5.
  3. Andy Warhol at the High Museum of Art: The Andy Warhol exhibit will be on display at the High Museum until Sept. 3, featuring more than 250 prints by Andy Warhol that span four decades. Plus, admission will be free on Sunday, Aug. 13.
  4. Street Eats on the Square: On Aug. 11, head to Colony Square (1175 Peachtree Street NE) to grab a bite from some of Atlanta’s best food trucks. From 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Blaxican, Tex’s Tacos, and Nana G’s will be serving delicious dishes. Grab a friend or coworker and make the most of your lunch.
  5. Fernbank Science Center: Visit the Fernbank Science Center to experience its exhibit hall, planetarium, observatory, outdoor garden, and library. Most activities at the Center are free. On Saturday, Aug. 5, the planetarium will feature four shows throughout the day. Visit their website to learn more.
  6. Grab a Cold Treat with Friends: While the weather is warm, treat yourself to an ice cream, popsicle, or frozen treat. The Atlanta area is home to several renowned frozen treat spots, including Jeni’s, King of Pops, and Vintage.
  7. Green Market at Piedmont Park: Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Piedmont Park hosts a farmers market featuring local food and produce. Walk the market and enjoy a Saturday morning at the park.
  8. Atlanta Monetary Museum: On weekdays, beginning at 9:30 a.m., the Atlanta Monetary Museum is open and free to the public. Visitors can explore the Federal Reserve’s impact on the economy through interactive exhibits and interesting displays. See where millions of dollars get counted, sorted, and shredded daily at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta.
  9. Atlanta Underground Film Festival: The 14th Annual Atlanta Underground Film Festival will take place Aug. 18–20 at Synchronicity Theatre in Midtown. The festival will include more than 75 shorts and features. Purchase tickets here.
  10. Piedmont Park Arts Festival: The Piedmont Park Arts Festival, held Aug. 19–20, will offer visitors the chance to view work from 250 painters, photographers, sculptors, leather and metalworkers, glass blowers, jewelers, and crafters. Admission is free. Get a group of friends and enjoy an afternoon of food trucks, art, music, and fun.
