Nunn School Associate Professor Margaret E. Kosal participated in the first meeting of the Biosecurity Policy Experts Working Group.

Nunn School Associate Professor Margaret E. Kosal participated in the first meeting of the Biosecurity Policy Experts Working Group on “Development of a Roadmap for Implementing New and Changing U.S. Biosecurity Policy.”

Initiated through the WMD Center of the National Defense University and managed by Gryphon Scientific, this innovative project aims to develop a roadmap for implementing biosecurity policy in the United States. The primary policy areas included are biological select agents and toxins, dual use research of concern, and emerging biotechnology. The policies, while individual in nature, contribute to the overarching U.S. government mission for countering biological threats and consequently, will be approached as an overlapping system of investment and regulation in this project.

This multi-sectoral Experts Working Group will provide their subject matter expertise; evaluate the interim and final results from the policy, opportunity cost, and metrics analyses; and peer review the final roadmap.
