The Ivan Allen College honored Charlotte Wheeler with the Ivan Allen Jr. Legacy Award for alumni during its annual Founder's Day Ceremony March 12.
As an undergraduate, Wheeler engaged in humanitarian work in South Africa. While earning a degree from the University of Michigan Law School, Wheeler worked with the Ann Arbor's Family Law Project.
Today, Wheeler, is an attorney for the prestigious Atlanta firm of Hunton & Williams focuses on mortgages and lending issues. She offers services to the Fulton County Juvenile Justice Center. She works on behalf of immigrants in Atlanta through the Immigrant Services Division of the Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Atlanta. She also volunteers her time to help families negotiate the legal difficulties of the adoption process.
Wheeler represents the committment to community welfare embodied by former Atlanta Mayor Ivan Allen Jr., namesake of the Ivan Allen College.
