Public Policy major Kristie Champlin is the recipient of the 2009 Ivan Allen Jr. Legacy Award for Students. The award is given annual by the Ivan Allen College in recognition of a student who embodies the Ivan Allen Jr. Legacy of achievement, leadership, and service benefiting others at Georgia Tech and in the community.

Public Policy major Kristie Champlin is the recipient of the 2009 Ivan Allen Jr. Legacy Award for Students. The award is given annual by the Ivan Allen College in recognition of a student who embodies the Ivan Allen Jr. Legacy of achievement, leadership, and service benefiting others at Georgia Tech and in the community.

Kristie is an outstanding student and a skilled researcher who has worked extensively on many projects, most notably constitutional concept of "posterity" for which she won a President's Undergraduate Research Award. She has been a President's Scholar Intern. She is a Student Government Representative and member of the Undergraduate Executive Cabinet, an active member of her sorority, and a member of the National Society for Collegiate Scholars

Kristie's community activism includes work for "Take Back the Night," Habitat for Humanity, Hurricane Katrina Relief, a home for battered women, cystic fibrosis fundraising, breast cancer awareness, among other causes and organizations. She completed the School of Public Policy's "Engaging English Avenue" class during which she worked with residents of this blighted neighborhood near Georgia Tech. Subsequent, to the class, Kristie continued working with young people in the neighborhood, and helped to found the English Avenue Enrichment Program. Most recently, Kristie helped to create a service-learning course that will send 20 Georgia Tech students to Peru this summer, where they will work within a poor community on sustainable projects for improving the quality of life. And she is just returned from Vietnam where she was a delegate to the Innovate conference being held there.
