The Organization of American Historians (OAH) has named Johnny Smith Distinguished Lecturer. Smith is an assistant professor in the Ivan Allen College School of History and Sociology at Georgia Tech.
Appointed by the OAH president-elect, Distinguished Lecturers are recognized for making “major contributions” to American History. Typically, the award goes to more established professors, so it is quite an honor for Smith to receive this recognition in early career.
According to the OAH, “These scholars, who are affiliated with some of the nation’s top universities . . . speak to audiences across the country each year and are widely sought for appearances at museums, libraries, universities, community centers, churches and synagogues, and other venues.”
Hearty congratulations to Dr. Smith for this wonderful recognition!
