Students in Dr. Kate Holterhoff's 2017 Spring ENGL 1102 course "Visual Culture, Digital Archives and H. Rider Haggard" created posters evaluating the aesthetics and materiality of scientific illustrations taken from books in Georgia Tech's special collections. In groups of three, teams selected one book from the collection to study in detail. This assignment enabled students to gain hands-on experience with archival materials, while considering the purpose of archives, the role of digital archivists, and the life cycle of library collections.
