Abstract:
The objective of the proposed research is to optimize power and energy efficiency in multi-core processors. To that end, this work proposes control theoretic approaches for balancing power and performance in order to achieve better performance at lower energy expense. There are three major aspects of this work. The first contribution of this work is effective and efficient power and performance management in a single voltage island in a processor. The second contribution of this work is a proposal to maximize power efficiency in a many-core processor that is composed of several voltage islands. The third contribution of this work is a hierarchical power management approach that can improve performance and energy efficiency under a power budget in a data center.
