FRENCH FILM Series
Co-curated by Professor Angela Dalle Vacche, LCC and Professor Qi Wang, LCC
"La Haine"
(Hate)
Festival, this film follows, in cinema verité style, a day in the life of three aimless, violence-prone, ethnically-diverse young men who come from the same decaying housing project in Paris. Although the trio seethes with fury over the arrest and senseless beating of an Arab friend, each manages to keep the other in check. But that restraint lasts only so long.
Director Kassovitz has been compared to Spike Lee due to the parallels found in Lee’s Do the Right Thing. Come to this screening and reflect on the circulation of dangerous weapons in society.
This film series is made possible by UniversCiné and the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in New York.
