There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Functionally the new site is identical to the old one. webteam@gatech.edu

The Georgia Tech Office of Emergency Preparedness (OEP) tests its emergency notification systems on a regular basis. Traditionally, OEP has conducted these tests on the first Thursday of a month at 11 a.m. Beginning, Wednesday, Feb. 8, OEP will transition from testing on Thursdays at 11 a.m. to testing on Wednesdays at noon for the spring semester.

The reason for the shift is to be consistent with all other outdoor warning testing in the state of Georgia. Additionally, noon is the end of a class period on Wednesdays, meaning the test will take place during a class break. Testing generally concludes within 10 minutes.

On Wednesday, Feb. 8, OEP will conduct a full test of the Georgia Tech Emergency Notification System (GTENS) as well as the outdoor siren warning system. GTENS is tested once per semester, and the siren system is tested monthly.

Exceptions:

  • When the first Wednesday of the month falls during Finals, the testing is shifted one week later.
  • When there is inclement weather in the forecast during the testing period, the testing is shifted one week later.

In Fall 2017, the Wednesday tests will move to 12:05 p.m. to coincide with the new class scheduling grid and break times. Follow @gtpdalerts on Twitter for further notifications.
