Georgia Tech Health & Well-Being partnered with student leaders and organizations across campus to launch a pilot program creating a Health and Well-Being Advocate network that will serve as a resource to the Georgia Tech campus community.
The first group of Well-Being Advocates attended a seven-hour kickoff event sponsored by Serve-Learn-Sustain and BuzzFunds on Saturday, January 28, 2017. This group of 36 student leaders, including five executive members, represented over 94 organizations and the Mental Health Coalition.
Health & Well-Being introduced attendees to important topics such as the Georgia Tech Health & Well-Being mission, QPR (Question, Persuade, and Refer) Suicide Training, and Servant Leadership. Upon completion, Health & Well-Being presented students with various branding items to help them become a visible presence on campus and in their organizations.
Health & Well-Being challenged advocates to serve as enthusiastic communication channels to motivate and promote health, well-being, and caring among fellow students in a positive and fun spirit. They will infuse a culture of well-being within their student organizations, and inspire students to flourish physically, emotionally, spiritually, professionally, and socially within the Georgia Tech community where they live, learn, work, and play. Moving forward, the advocate group will also serve as a coalition of student organizations that promote well-being through engagement, sustainability, diversity, and encouragement.
The first challenge the advocates are embracing across campus is Georgia Tech Kindness month throughout February. They will be among the first group to hand out the Georgia Tech Kindness coins when they witness an act of kindness. Each following month will bring about a new focus area and educational campaign specifically tailored to the Georgia Tech campus community needs.
Be sure to keep an eye out for the Well-Being Advocates around campus and ask them how you too can be Smart and Happy!
