The African Film Series: (Double Feature)

“Afro@Digital”
Balufu Bakupa-Kanyinda(Congo) – 2003/52 minutes

What role can digital technology play in Africa? And how can the technology contribute to social and economic development on the continent? These questions are at the center of Balufu Bakupa-Kanyinda's "Afro@Digital". Through interviews with artists, fashion designers, filmmakers, and media executives, this documentary explores different opinions on the uses and purposes of new media on the continent. It also examines a wide range of technologies-from cell phones to the Internet-in African societies. And it suggests, in one of the interviews, that computing technology may be indigenous to Africa.
