African Film Series:
Inside Buffalo
Fred Kudjo Kuwornu (Ghana) - 2009/59 minutes
This documentary tells the story of African Americans in the 92nd Infantry division, known as Buffalo Soldiers, during World War II. The nickname recalls the way Native Americans referred to the black members of the U.S. Cavalry in the American West. "Inside Buffalo" collects testimonies from several of the soldiers who fought in Italy During WWII in order to denounce racial discrimination in the American Army. It also explores a less well-known aspect of that history: the friendships that developed between Italians and African American soldiers. The director is an African-Italian whose work was inspired by Spike Lee.
Co-Curated by Professor Angela Dalle Vacche (LCC) & Professor Vinicius Navarro (LCC)
