Spending Winter Break in Atlanta

As the campus community prepares to depart for winter break, not all will face arduous travels or long holiday road trips.

Georgia Tech will be closed Dec. 26–30, as well as on Jan. 2. For those who stay in the area during the break, Atlanta offers many festive ways to enjoy an extra dose of down time.

Invasion Christmas Carol: Dad’s Garage Theatre Company presents this part-scripted, part-improvised holiday spectacle.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer: The Center for Puppetry Arts features this holiday classic through Dec. 31. Tickets include a puppet-making workshop.

Ice Skating: Enjoy ice skating at Atlantic Station, Centennial Olympic Park, or Park Tavern.  

Festival of the SEAson: The Georgia Aquarium will celebrate the holiday season with special events through January 1.

Six Flags Holiday in the Park: For those who love roller coasters, the rides are even more fun amid lights and holiday décor.

Christmas at Callanwolde: The Callanwolde Fine Arts Center transforms the grounds of its historic estate into an array of lights.

Watch the Peach Drop: Visit Downtown Atlanta for the Peach Drop, an Atlanta New Year’s Eve tradition since 1989.

I See a Story: The Art of Eric Carle: This High Museum exhibit highlights work beyond the pages that evoke childhood reading memories. It closes January 8, 2017.   

Atlanta Monetary Museum: Located at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta (at 10th and Peachtree Streets), this free museum tells the story of the history of money.

Snow Mountain: No matter the real weather, enjoy snow at Stone Mountain Park through February.

Anne Frank in the World: A new exhibit at the Sandy Springs Welcome Center features more than 500 photographs and a short film telling the story of the life of Anne Frank.
