At its November meeting, its last in-person meeting for the year, the Board of Regents (BOR) met in Atlanta and approved a few items related to the Institute.

The Board approved the establishment of a professional master’s in occupational safety and health management. The program was developed for industry professionals with three to five years of work experience who seek a master’s level program that will offer skills and knowledge in the management, design, and assessment of complex safety and health issues. The academic program will have two tracks in construction and general industry. 

The Board also approved the establishment of the following named positions and appointments:

  • Georgia Power Chair in the College of Sciences — appointment of Kim Cobb, School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences.
  • Pratt and Whitney Professorship in the School of Aerospace Engineering — appointment of Massimo Ruzzene.
  • Naming of Daniel Goldman, School of Physics, to the Dunn Family Professorship II, College of Sciences.
  • Naming of Deirdre Shoemaker, School of Physics, to the Dunn Family Professorship I, College of Sciences.
  • The next step for the Living Building at Georgia Tech took place in the form of the approval of a ground lease and rental agreement. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2017 with completion scheduled for 2018.
