There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Full Summary: No summary paragraph submitted.

The Center for Teaching and Learning was funded with a GT-FIRE grant in 2016 to conduct a study on how instructors, TAs, and students at Georgia Tech use Piazza, a free web service that functions as a discussion forum or a Q&A platform.

In this study,

  • we analyzed data statistics from 159 classes that used Piazza during Fall 2015.
  • we surveyed 554 students on their perceptions of online discussions on their perceptions of online discussions on their learning experience.
  • we interviewed faculty and TAs on challenges and best practices of facilitating online discussions.

In this workshop, we will share with you findings from this study.  We will also discuss about the best practices of effectively facilitating online discussions to engage students.

Lunch will be provided.
