Georgia Tech and the Atlanta community will host various events this week in observance of the holiday.
Thursday, Nov. 10, the Georgia Tech Veterans Resource Center will host an open house. Head to the Smithgall Student Services (Flag) Building, Room 150, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to learn more about the Center and how it supports veterans at Tech.
Friday, Nov. 11, Georgia Tech ROTC will host a Veterans Day Run beginning at 6:30 a.m. at Callaway Plaza and following the campus Pi Mile course. All are invited to join.
From 11 to 11:30 a.m., the Georgia Tech Veterans Day Ceremony will take place at the Kessler Campanile.
At noon, the Eagles at Georgia Tech will host a flag retirement ceremony to properly retire worn American flags, and in the process honor veterans who have served the U.S. The ceremony will last until 12:45 p.m. and take place at the Flag Circle outside the Ferst Center for the Arts.
In the evening, the Georgia Tech Men’s Basketball Team will take on Tennessee Tech. This game has been designated as the Salute to Service game. Head out to McCamish Pavilion at 8 p.m. to support veterans and the Jackets. Bring a BuzzCard for free student entry.
On Friday, Nov. 11, a color guard presentation by the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps Atlanta Region will be held at the Georgia Aquarium at noon. Activities will continue throughout the day including a Military Salute fundraiser, an opportunity to write letters to deployed troops, and a special video demonstrating Georgia Aquarium’s Military Salute programming.
On Nov. 12 at 11:11 a.m., the 35th Annual Atlanta Veterans Day Parade will kick off at at Peachtree Street, south of Ralph McGill and Ivan Allen Boulevard. The parade concludes at the intersection of Centennial Olympic Park Drive and Marietta Street. Come out to join the Atlanta community.
The Atlanta History Center will host a lecture from Joe Galloway, a war correspondent and author at 11 a.m. on Nov. 11. Galloway co-authored the New York Times best-seller We Were Soldiers Once… And Young. This program is free and open to the public.
