Horizons Atlanta at Georgia Tech soapbox derby racing team, “Team Swarm”, competed in the Georgia Gravity Games, sponsored by City of Douglasville, Georgia Tech, and Google. While “Team Swarm” had a fun and exciting time putting their cars to the test, they did not place in the event.
The boys team, racing in the Stock class, consisted of Marcus Adams, Aasir Brown, and Brandon Jones. The girls team, racing in the Super Stock class, was made up of Ariel Adams, Jordyn Morton, and JaNiyah Smith. Marcus and JaNiyah were drivers while Aasir, Brandon, Ariel, and Jordyn served as pit crews. The team coaches were Sirocus Barnes, John Stafford, Ana Arreola, Katrina Burch, and Semira Yefter.
Horizons at Georgia Tech is a Summer learning program focused on preventing the Summer slide with additional support offered to students and their families during the school year. The soapbox derby teams are a component of the Horizons School Year Program initiatives.
