Abstract:

Many tools exist today for managing enormous collections of data. An important challenge, however, is that big data management tools must be both fast and easy-to-use.

In this talk, Balazinska will present the Myria system and service that she and her colleagues have developed in the database group at the University of Washington (in collaboration with the eScience Institute).

The service is designed to meet the needs of modern data scientists, focusing on performance and productivity. Balazinska will give an overview of the tool’s design and details on some of its query execution and cloud operation features.

Bio:

Magdalena Balazinska is the Jean Loup Baer Associate Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Washington.
