There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Functionally the new site is identical to the old one. webteam@gatech.edu

Overview: Technical writing can be directed toward internal or public audiences, for background or instruction, for reporting on the progress of work in progress, or at a major project milestone. Peer review is a process commonly used to vet the quality of the writing and particularly the validity of the conclusions presented, typically prior to publication in a journal of record. While casual writings often contain valuable information, peer reviewed writings have been “quality checked” and may be referenced with some confidence. Peer review is closely associated with scientific and academic publications, but not all scientific or academic publications are peer reviewed. This seminar will begin by discussing the purpose and process of peer review, specifically how to write for peer review, in an attempt to help writers of scientific papers better understand the peer review process. While all peer reviewed Journals have their own standards and criteria for acceptance, Journal Peer Reviewer Evaluation Forms will be used to discussed. FAQs of writing for peer review will be discussed, including how much detail to include, what to include in the abstract, and your specific questions.
