"The goal of the Georgia Tech project is to home in on optimal reverse production systems - recycling infrastructures that reclaim as much of a used device as possible at the lowest cost possible. The team has developed mathematical models that evaluate existing recycling facilities, including collection centers, glass-reprocessing plants, and smelting facilities. Such models will determine the most efficient ways to use the facilities and help researchers figure out the right combination of collection fees, tax breaks, and additional reprocessing facilities."
