Shippers are shrugging off alliances built to take advantage of tight supply and demand as excess capacity provides them with enough leverage to negotiate favorable rates on their own. A study by supply chain analysts at Georgia Tech points out that the key is to identify hidden costs that all participants in a logistics system pay but none control individually, namely those associated with asset repositioning.
