The GoSTEM program is a partnership between Georgia Tech and Gwinnett County Public Schools designed to enhance the educational experience of Latino students in Georgia and strengthen the pipeline of these students into post-secondary STEM education.  The project is comprised of a number of programs to engage teachers, students, families, and the community.  More information can be found at www.gostem.gatech.edu.

What positions are available?

Mentor Intern positions are paid and available for the Spring 2017 term.  Mentor Interns determine their work schedules based on their availability.  Mentor Interns duties are detailed below:

 

High School Duties

  • Meet with students weekly to complete activities that assist in preparing for postsecondary matriculation such as college and scholarship research, resume writing, and completing applications.
  • Tutor students in mathematics, science, and the SAT/ACT each week
  • Work at Meadowcreek High School
  • Specific work schedules will be determined later, but work hours must fall from Tuesday through Thursday from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. during the after-school programs.

 

Middle School Duties

  • Work in teams to engage a group of 15-18 students in weekly hands-on STEM activities
  • Work at Lilburn and/or Radloff Middle Schools
  • Work on Tuesdays and/or Wednesdays from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.

 

Mentor Interns must attend a mandatory pre-service training on one full day on a Saturday.  Mentor Interns also attend monthly two-hour trainings throughout the semester.
