The Associate Director of Undergraduate Studies in the School of History and Sociology is seeking a new student assistant to help with tasks related to the HSOC undergraduate program, recruitment, and outreach to alums. The qualified candidate must be extremely reliable, organized, flexible, detail oriented, creative, able to work on tight deadlines, and able to function both independently and in a close work space.

The job is approximately 6 - 10 hours per week, paying $10 per hour.  Students are not required to be in the federal work-study program to apply.  The job runs through the fall 2016 semester and can be extended through spring 2017 as well.  Duties of the position include:

  • basic office work (copying, filing, compiling mailings, etc.);
  • maintaining the HSOC blog using the GT Mercury news and events system;
  • maintaining the HSOC Twitter feed, Facebook page, and other social media;
  • creating hard copy and digital advertising;
  • maintaining databases of HSOC alums and prospective students; 
  • creating the weekly HSOC newsletter using MailChimp;
  • creating the yearly HSOC newsletter (12+ page PDF); and
  • other duties, as assigned.

Required skills include:

  • excellent writing and oral communications skills (including proof reading);
  • ability to learn new programs quickly;
  • ability to work independently and meet deadlines;
  • proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint;
  • experience with Google docs and forms; and
  • ability to create digital and print media, such as flyers, brochures, digital ads, etc.

Preferred skills include:

  • experience with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop; and
  • experience maintaining websites using a content management system such as Drupal.
