Pianos for Peace graphicGeorgia Tech joins multiple venues citywide for Pianos for Peace, an annual open festival of music using colorful, painted pianos to inspire artists and unite people in the community. For two weeks, September 3-18, vibrant pianos are placed in public venues and neighborhoods throughout metro Atlanta for everyone to enjoy and anyone to play. Coordinated on campus by the Office of the Arts and the new Arts@Tech Ambassadors group, one of the pianos will be placed outside of the Clough Undergraduate Learning Commons, near Tech Green.
The Georgia Tech piano was painted by Malek Jandali, the founder of Pianos for Peace. Other locations for the pianos include the Fox Theatre, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, MARTA stations, the Rialto Center for the Arts, Spelman College, Underground Atlanta, and others. A Pianos for Peace App is free and available to download. The app includes location details, artist bio, and photos of all the pianos. Users can also schedule their own pop-up concerts.
After the two-week outdoor festival, Pianos for Peace will donate all pianos to metro Atlanta schools, nursing homes, community centers, healthcare facilities and other organizations in need.
