Saibal Mukhopadhyay has received a 2009 IBM Faculty Partnership Award for his work in "On-line Global Thermal Management in Many-Core Processors."
Dr. Mukhopadhyay's work is a cross-disciplinary effort spanning signal/image processing, VLSI design, and computer architecture. He is exploring methods for characterization of global thermal field and management of maximum value and spatiotemporal uniformity of temperature in many-core processors. The thermal field management principle and hardware platform developed through this research will improve reliability, energy-efficiency, and cooling-efficiency of future many-core microprocessors.
An assistant professor in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Dr. Mukhopadhyay has been on the faculty since September 2007. His research and teaching interests are primarily focused on VLSI circuit and system design. He earned his Ph.D. in ECE from Purdue University in 2006 and his B.E. degree in electronics and telecommunications engineering from Jadavpur University in India in 2000.
