There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Ivan Oransky, M.D. - “Retractions, Post-Publication Peer Review, and Fraud: Scientific Publishing’s Wild West”
Dr. Ivan Oransky is Vice President and Global Editorial Director of MedPage Today, Distinguished Writer in Residence at New York University’s Arthur Carter Journalism Institute, Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at New York University School of Medicine, and Co-Founder of Retraction Watch.
Oransky and Adam Marcus founded Retraction Watch in 2010. Unbeknownst to them, retractions had grown ten-fold in the previous decade. Oransky will discuss the reasons for that increase, whether fraud is on the rise, the growth of post-publication peer review, and other trends he and Marcus have seen as they’ve built a site that is now viewed by 150,000 people per month, and funded by philanthropies including the MacArthur Foundation.
