The College of Architecture at Georgia Tech has named Daniel Castro Interim Chair of the School of Building Construction. An expert in material procurement, automation protocols and sustainable energy alternatives for buildings, Castro joined the faculty of Georgia Tech in 2006 after teaching for several years at Ohio University. A national search for new leadership for the School of Building Construction will commence in the fall.

Castro holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Purdue, a M.S. in Construction Management from University of Reading and a B.S. in Civil Engineering for Universidad de Los Andes (Colombia). He is a registered engineer and has membership in the Construction Research Council; the International Association for Automation and Robotics in Construction; and the American Society of Civil Engineers.

The position was held previously by Roozbeh Kangari, who led the program’s tremendous growth over the last decade.

"On behalf of the College and Institute I thank Dr. Kangari for his fourteen years of leadership in Building Construction at Georgia Tech," said Alan Balfour, Dean of the College of Architecture. "Over these years he has made a significant contribution to the building industry locally and though he will be returning to an academic role in the fall, I know he will support whoever succeeds him in maintaining the respect and the support of the industry for the School of Building Construction."

The School of Building Construction at Georgia Tech is a leading force of innovation in integrated project delivery, integrated facility management and real estate development. It is the fastest growing among Schools in the College of Architecture, almost doubling in size in the last decade. Both undergraduate and graduate degrees offered by the School of Building Construction are accredited by the Associated Schools of Construction.
