“We’re glad CALEA recognizes that GTPD continues to uphold the highest standards of law enforcement,” GTPD Chief Rob Connolly said. “This was a concerted effort made by every person in our department with the support of Institute leadership, to ensure we met all 189 standards.”
CALEA accreditation requires an agency to develop and follow a comprehensive, well-thought-out, uniform set of written directives and professional standards. The award represents the culmination of an extensive self-evaluation, concluded by a review from independent assessors and CALEA’s commissioners.
Of the 761 campus law enforcement agencies in the United States, only 91 have achieved accreditation, or about 12 percent. In Georgia, GTPD is one of only three campus law enforcement agencies achieving and maintaining this respected award.
By adhering to CALEA’s standards, GTPD has demonstrated its commitment to strengthen its relationship with the community, make fact-based management decisions, operate with transparency and accountability, limit liability and exposure to risk, and facilitate an overall pursuit of professional excellence.
GTPD will undergo another reaccreditation study in 2020.
