IEN presents summer short course

*********************************
There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Functionally the new site is identical to the old one. webteam@gatech.edu

The Institute for Electronics and Nanotechnology will present a short course July 21-22 open to on and off-campus researchers from academia, industry and government laboratories/organizations. It is not limited to current Georgia Tech students or IEN users. Anyone who is interested in starting research in the area of microfluidics or PDMS device fabrication is invited and strongly encouraged to participate.

The course, "Soft Lithography for Microfluidics," is designed for individuals interested in hands-on training in the fabrication of microfluidic devices using the soft lithographytechnique. It will be structured to assume no prior knowledge of the technologies by the participants. The agenda is evenly divided between laboratory hands-on sessions, including SU-8 master mold creation using photolithography and PDMS device fabrication in the IEN cleanroom, and supporting lectures.  The goal for this course is to impart a basic understanding of soft lithography for microfluidic applications as practiced in academia and industry.

The schedule is as follows:

July 21st

9:00 AM: Registration and Refreshments

9:30 AM - 10:45AM: Introduction to Microfluidics

10:45 AM - 11:00 AM: Break

11:00 AM - 12:00 PM: Soft Lithography Methods of Fabrication

12:00 PM - 1:00 PM: Lunch

1:00 PM - 2:00 PM: Photolithography for SU-8 Master Molds

2:00 PM - 5:00 PM: Hands-On Session 1 - SU-8 Master Molds Fabrication

July 22

9:00 AM - 10:00 AM: Bioapplications in Microfluidics

10:00 AM - 12:00 PM: Hands-On Session 2 - PDMS Device Fabrication Part I

12:00 PM - 1:00 PM: Lunch

1:00 PM - 4:00 PM: Hands-On Session 3 - PDMS Device Fabrication Part II

 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM: Project Consultations

Rates (includes lunch both days): Industry Rate - $600; Academic and Government Rate - $300; Georgia Tech Rate - $150.
