A New Look for BuzzCard

*********************************
There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Functionally the new site is identical to the old one. webteam@gatech.edu

A new look for the Georgia Tech BuzzCard will begin appearing on campus this summer as incoming students receive cards during FASET, an orientation program for new students.

The new card features a fresh design including a hologram highlighting Tech Tower. This new card design comes 13 years after the current BuzzCard was introduced in 2003. A sample BuzzCard featuring the infamous George Burdell as the cardholder is shown here.

Along with a new design, the updated BuzzCard also features smart contactless technology. This is in addition to the proximity technology that currently exists in all BuzzCards. The new technology will work seemlessly as the physical access control systems on campus are upgraded over the next several years.

Incoming students, as well as new faculty, staff and affiliates, will be issued the newly designed card this summer. The BuzzCard Center will begin issuing cards to the rest of the campus community later this fall. Existing cardholders will receive notification to come to the BuzzCard Center to have a new card produced. A new photo will be required; however, there will be no fee for the new card provided the current card is traded in. The BuzzCard Center, which handles the process of approving and producing cards, is located on the second floor of Barnes & Noble @ Georgia Tech in Tech Square.
