*********************************
There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Functionally the new site is identical to the old one. webteam@gatech.edu

Students, faculty, and staff get to enjoy an extra day of leisure this weekend to celebrate America’s birthday.

For those looking for fun ways to enjoy the day off without breaking the bank, the Atlanta area offers plenty of options.

Friday, July 1

  • Braves v. Marlins: The Braves take on the Miami Marlins at 7:35 p.m. Win or lose, the night will end with post-game entertainment and fireworks.

Saturday, July 2

  • Braves v. Marlins: A second matchup with the Marlins, beginning at 4:10 p.m. Wear sunscreen.

Monday, July 4

  • Peachtree Road Race: The world’s largest 10K takes place close to campus, finishing on 10th Street at Piedmont Park. Find a place along the race route to cheer on the nearly 65,000 runners.
  • Centennial Olympic Park: Park gates open at 6 p.m., with live music preceding fireworks. You may even be able to find a spot on campus for a view of this show.
  • Decatur Square: Plenty of options for eating, shopping, and walking around the square prior to a fireworks show — and all accessible by MARTA.
  • Lenox Square Mall: The Lenox celebration features more than 10,000 fireworks and live music. Festivities begin at 6 p.m.
