Save the Date! Launch of the IDEAS for Materials Design, Development & Deployment

*********************************
There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Functionally the new site is identical to the old one. webteam@gatech.edu

Summaries

Summary Sentence: The Institute for Materials (IMat) invites you to save the date for the formal launch of IDEAS:MD3.

Full Summary: No summary paragraph submitted.

The Georgia Tech Institute for Materials (IMat) invites you to save the date of Friday August 26th for the formal launch of a unique Georgia Tech initiative to build a natural lab-industry consortium known as IDEAS:MD3. Directed by Professor Surya Kalidindi at Georgia Tech, the purpose of IDEAS:MD3 is to promote and conduct research, development, and testing in materials data science and informatics that will lead to new and improved methods to accelerate materials design, development, and deployment (MD3). Knowledge and information regarding these capabilities will be disseminated through research projects, conferences, workshops and publications to establish a strong community around materials data and informatics.

Activities during the launch event will include demonstrations of the novel capabilities offered by the unique material innovation cyber-ecosystem being designed, built, and launched by MD3 for its members. Additionally, there will be an opportunity to interact with students during poster and break-out sessions. Attendees are invited to bring their own materials data sets to see real-time problem solving demonstrations using Georgia Tech's MATIN platform.

Also of interest to you may be a workshop organized by the South Big Data Hub, which will take place the preceding day, Thursday, August 25th. The South Big Data Hub is a joint effort between Georgia Tech and UNC-Chapel Hill funded by the National Science Foundation that aims to establish and grow a community around data analytics in the southeastern region. Members of the Materials and Manufacturing community from academia, national labs, and industry will meet to discuss data and cyberinfrastructure challenges relevant to accelerated materials innovation and deployment in commercial products.

We invite you to attend both events to learn more about how emerging capabilities in big data can help your organization. Please RSVP to Brooke Beckert, Industry Liaison for IMat and MD3, at this time regarding your plans to attend the August 26th launch of MD3 or with any additional questions.
