There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Functionally the new site is identical to the old one. webteam@gatech.edu

Faculty and students are invited to this free lecture. Dr. William (Mel) Roquemore, senior scientist for the Combustion for the Aerospace Systems Directorate of the Air Force Research Laboratory will discuss this exciting area of research. During his career Roquemore has pioneered the development and application of laser diagnostic techniques to study practical combusting flows. His team used advanced diagnostics techniques to establish a database for developing and evaluating models that that are still used to design combustors in today’s gas turbine engines. In the mid 1980s he invented the reactive Mie scattering visualization technique. The visualizations of combustion flows obtained by his team have received numerous scientific art awards, and appear in the book authorized by American Physical Society, “Physics in the 20th Century."
