There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Functionally the new site is identical to the old one. webteam@gatech.edu

Emmanouil M. (Manos) Tentzeris has been appointed as a Ken Byers Professor in the area of flexible electronics, effective June 1.

Tentzeris joined the faculty of the Georgia Tech School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) in 1998 after graduating with his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan. He leads the ATHENA Research Group, where he currently advises one visiting research scientist, nine Ph.D. students, two master’s students, and nine undergraduate researchers. He has graduated 28 Ph.D. students and 18 master’s students.

Tentzeris and his team have developed very successful research and academic programs in 3D/inkjet-printed electronics and modules, flexible electronics, origami antennas and morphing electromagnetics, highly integrated multilayer packaging for RF and wireless applications, paper-based RFIDs and sensors, wireless sensors and biosensors, “green” electronics, energy harvesting and wireless power transfer, and nanotechnology applications in RF, microwave MEMS, and system-on-package integrated antennas.

He has served as the chair of the ECE electromagnetics technical interest group, the associate director for RFID/sensors research in the Georgia Electronic Design Center, and associate director for RF research and the RF alliance leader for the Packaging Research Center (now known as the 3D Systems Packaging Research Center).

Tentzeris has published more than 600 papers in refereed journal and conference publications, five books, and 23 book chapters, and he has served as associate editor for the IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques, IEEE Transactions on Advanced Packaging, and the International Journal on Antennas and Propagation, Proceedings of the IEEE. Tentzeris’ students have received numerous best paper and best poster awards at IEEE conferences. He also served as a distinguished lecturer for the IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society from 2010-2012 and now serves as a distinguished lecturer for the IEEE Council on RFID.

An IEEE Fellow since 2010, Tentzeris has received numerous honors, including the 2014 ECE Distinguished Faculty Achievement Award; the 2010 IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society Piergiorgio L. E. Uslenghi Letters Prize Paper Award; the 2010 Georgia Tech Senior Faculty Outstanding Undergraduate Research Mentor Award; the 2003 IEEE Components, Packaging, and Manufacturing Technology Society Outstanding Young Engineer Award; the 2003 NASA Godfrey "Art" Anzic Collaborative Distinguished Publication Award; and the 2002 ECE Outstanding Junior Faculty Member Award.
