Director of International Student & Scholar Services, Office of International Education
Living in a new country without the familiar faces of family and friends is a challenge commonly faced by international students and their parents. The Office of International Education’s (OIE) ISSS advisors serve as a resource and advocate for the large and diverse population of international students and scholars at Georgia Tech. We strive to create an environment where international students and scholars are able to make a well-integrated transition to Georgia Tech through diverse cultural, educational and leadership opportunities.
Newly admitted international students studying with an F or J student visa must complete an online check-in process using iStart and meet with the OIE international student advisor to be eligible to register for classes. Students are encouraged to begin the OIE check-in process from home. The last step, which includes a brief meeting with an international student advisor, will take place after arriving to the U.S. Advisors will be stationed in Clough Commons from Thursday, August 11, through Thursday, August 19, to assist the more than 1,500 international students who will be new to Georgia Tech in Fall 2016!
Details about the International Student Check-In is at oie.gatech.edu/check_in.
The International Welcome Series will be held August 16-29. Students attending these events will have the opportunity to meet other new international students, the ISSS staff and hear from seasoned international students who will offer their perspective for new student success. These events supplement FASET orientation with additional information to assist students with common topics faced upon arrival and beyond.
While participation in most of the International Welcome Series is strongly encouraged, other than the “How to Succeed as an F-1 or J-2 Student” program, the welcome series programs are optional.
More information about the International Welcome Series is available at oie.gatech.edu/welcome_series
We look forward to meeting and assisting your student to be successful at Georgia Tech!
