TITLE: Military Logistics

ABSTRACT:
The discussion will cover a conversation on defense distribution from the point of view of a former soldier and current deputy commander of DoD’s largest distribution center. It will provide an overview of the DoD customer and the more challenging environments in which they operate. From there the presentation will consist of a high level overview of Defense Logistics Agency, Defense Distribution Center and Defense Distribution Depot Susquehanna. The discussion of DDSP will also include a photo tour through operations and initiatives, a process video and a discussion of current day challenges.
Bio
Mr. Edward R. “Ed” Visker retired from the US Army after 27 years of service and assumed duties as Deputy Commander, Defense Distribution Center Susquehanna, PA in Jun 2006. His last active duty assignment was Chief of Staff, Defense Distribution Center, Nov 2004 to May 2006. Prior to that assignment, he was Commander, Defense Distribution Center San Joaquin, CA, Jun 2001 to Apr 2004 and Chief, Sustainment Division, CENTCOM Deployment & Distribution Operations Center (CDDOC), Camp Arifjan, Kuwait, Apr to Nov 2004.
Mr. Visker, a native of Albany, NY, was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant at Siena College in 1979, where he was a distinguished military graduate where he was awarded a Bachelors of Science in Banking and Finance. He also holds a Masters of Science in Systems Management (Logistics) from the University of Southern California and a Masters of Science in Strategy from the US Army War College.
His military training includes the Quartermaster Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, Training with Industry in Contracting and Industrial Management, the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, the Joint Officers Staff Course and the U.S. Army War College.
Prior to his deployment to Kuwait from the San Joaquin Distribution Center, Visker served as Commander, 55th Theater Material Management Center, Taegu, South Korea. Other key assignments included: Commander, Defense Distribution Depot Anniston, AL; Headquarters Commandant & Director of Logistics, J4, Special Operations Command Central (Airborne), MacDill AFB, FL; Chief of Logistics Plans, 1st Corps Support Command (Airborne) & Executive Officer, 264th Corps Support Battalion, Fort Bragg, NC; Supervisory Contracting Officer, Defense Logistics Agency – Europe, Germany; Deputy Chief, General Supply and Production Planning & Control Divisions, Sharpe Army Depot, CA; and Equipment Platoon Leader, Supply Platoon Leader and Commander, 278th General Supply Company, Fort Devens, MA.
His awards and decorations include the: Defense Superior Service Medal; Legion of Merit; Defense Meritorious Service Medal (3); Meritorious Service Medal (3); Joint Service Commendation Medal; Army Commendation Medal; Joint Service Achievement Medal; Army Achievement Medal (2); Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary and Support Medals; Korean Service Medal; Humanitarian Service Medal; Joint Meritorious Unit Award (5); National Defense Medal (2) and the Parachutist Badge.
