COPE Literature Club

*********************************
There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Functionally the new site is identical to the old one. webteam@gatech.edu

Summaries

Summary Sentence: For all COPE students - 1st meeting of 2010

Full Summary: Purpose: Explore current literature that influences research at Georgia Tech in the field of organic electronics and photonics. What: Discussion regarding high impact paper(s) and how such advancements influence work here at Georgia Tech.

Please join us on Wednesday, January 20th for the first meeting of 2010!

Purpose: Explore current literature that influences research at Georgia Tech in the field of organic electronics and photonics.

Time and Location: 3PM in MoSE 3201
Dessert and coffee will be served!
Presenter: Chris Wood (Chemistry, Dr. Bredas group) will present: Recent Advances in DFT calculations of the Band Structure of Zinc Oxide

PLEASE NOTE that Chris will aim his talk at a basic-enough level to be interesting and informative to both non-theorists and to the new grad students

(Discussion of why DFT methods are desirable for this sort of model, why DFT-based methods fail to accurately calculate bandgaps in semiconductors, and discuss a pair of papers using hybrid DFT techniques, a new XC-functional (HSE06), and tight-binding DFT to model various electronic properties of zinc oxide more accurately)

Email veronique.bredas@chemistry.gatech.edu to RSVP or if you have any questions about COPE.
