High Performace Computing Research Symposium

*********************************
There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Functionally the new site is identical to the old one. webteam@gatech.edu

Full Summary: No summary paragraph submitted.

You are cordially invited to attend this symposium that will gather our community’s researchers, highlight Georgia Tech’s high-performance computing (HPC) research accomplishments in computational science and engineering, and continue a dialogue on governance strategies for leveraging our HPC expertise and leadership. The symposium is free and open to all members of the Georgia Tech community, including faculty, staff and students, and includes a buffet lunch and refreshments.

Today’s massive supercomputers allow us to study complex phenomena, from genetics to advanced materials to global climate, more comprehensively than ever before. Our research in nanoscience—manipulating and building atom by atom—is amazing in its potential. This keynote address will examine the implications of petascale computing on each of these research areas and give a hint of what could be accomplished with the help of world-leading supercomputing facilities, such as the Department of Energy’s National Center for Computational Sciences and the National Science Foundation’s National Institute for Computational Sciences.
