There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Functionally the new site is identical to the old one. webteam@gatech.edu

"Parallelism, Adaptivity and Uncertainty Quantification – Marriages Not Made in Heaven"
This talk will focus on a number of computational issues arising from the use of adaptive methods and uncertainty quantification on large parallel computers. The context is provided by recent work on quantifying volcanic hazard risk over an entire jurisdiction but the computational methodology should apply to a large class of problems
characterized by the solution of complex partial differential equations using numerical discretization. We describe efficient methods for data management in distributed computations and the crucial role of adaptivity in making these computations feasible.
