Student performers from across the country will celebrate Indian culture Saturday night on campus at the India Club’s Holi Show: Dhadkan.
“Holi Show displays our rich and varied culture through student musical and dance performances and ultimately brings our community together,” said Shiv Patel, senior advisor for the India Club.
Holi Show is held annually at Georgia Tech corresponding with the event, Holi Festival. Culturally, Holi signifies the festival of colors and is a time when friends and family unite to celebrate the happy occasion. It is an important festival to Hindus, along with other Indians and people of south Asian origin.
This year’s Holi Show features 12 teams chosen by India Club members through an audition process open to the general public. The performances vary from Bollywood fusion dance to Indian classical dance. The show also features one of Georgia Tech’s premier acappella groups.
“Holi Show has it all,” Patel said. “It serves as a one-stop show for anyone on campus wishing to connect with rich Indian culture.”
This year’s Holi Show has more than 255 students performing, and for the first time, the event will incorporate audience voting to award performers and increase audience interaction. There will be five categories for which audience members will be able to vote for winners.
As the India Club’s largest event, Holi Show 2016: Dhadkan! is expected to have more than 1,000 attendees on Saturday, April 2, at 6:30 p.m. in the Ferst Center for the Arts. For those who are unable to attend, India Club is making videos of all this year’s performers available online here.
