(February 14, 2007) - When it comes to the Colleges of Computing and Engineering, Georgia Tech is seventh in the world, according to a 2007 academic ranking of world universities by broad subject field published this month by the Institute of Higher Education at the Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The 2007 ranking was the first of its kind for ARWU. In 2006, The Academic Rankings of World Universities (ARWU) overall ranking put Georgia Tech's programs at 102-150.
ARWU rankings in engineering, technology and computer science are based on academic and research performance. In all, more than 1000 institutions were ranked, the top 106 making it into the published report. Ranking indicators include alumni and faculty winning Nobel Prizes and fields medals, highly cited researchers, articles indexed in Science Citation Index-Expanded (SCIE) and Social Science Citation Index (SSCI).
Two new indicators were introduced with this years broad subject ranking: the percentage of articles published in the top 20% journals of each field and engineering research expenditure.
The top ten Engineering/Technology and Computer Science programs were all in the USA:
