The College of Computing announced that four new faculty have been appointed to endowed chairs, nearly doubling the number of such chairs across its faculty ranks.

The new chairs include:

  • Distinguished Professor Gregory Abowd has been named the J.Z. Liang Professor in the School of Interactive Computing
  • Professor Wenke Lee has been named the John P. Imlay Jr. Professor in the School of Computer Science
  • Distinguished Professor Santosh Vempala has been named the Frederick G. Storey Professor in the School of Computer Science
  • Professor Ellen Zegura has been named the Stephen Fleming Professor in the School of Computer Science. With the appointment, Zegura becomes the first female professor to hold an endowed chair in the College’s 26-year history.

“My congratulations go out to our four newest chair holders, who are all beyond deserving of this latest recognition of their teaching, research, and service to Georgia Tech and to the field of computing,” said Zvi Gall, the John P. Imlay Jr. Dean of Computing. “I’m especially proud that we could recognize Ellen Zegura, former chair of the School of Computer Science, as the first woman to receive an endowed professorship in the College’s history. That particular milestone is long overdue, and I can think of no one more deserving of the honor than Ellen.”
