A Division C Regional Science Olympiad Tournament was held at Georgia Tech on Saturday, March 5th, at the Clough Undergraduate Learning Commons. The event brought teams comprised of driven and talented students from seventeen high schools to test their knowledge and skills in various branches of basic and applied sciences. Science Olympiad fosters team building and critical thinking skills that are essential for understanding and solving current complex problems. Now for the second consecutive year, CEISMC, a unit in the College of Sciences, lead the concerted effort of hosting the tournament with a talented team of volunteers headed by Co-Directors Jean Anderson and Gustavia Evans. The seventeen participating teams were nearly twice as many as attended last year’s competition. Teams usually consisted of 15 students who participated in a combination of 23 different events that focused on different fields. This year’s winners were Lambert High School in third place, Rockdale Magnet School for Science and Technology in second place, with Milton High School taking first place.  These winning teams will advance to compete in the state Science Olympiad Tournament to be held at Emory University on April 16th.  We wish them success!
