There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Functionally the new site is identical to the old one. webteam@gatech.edu

Title: Control of the DC-AC and AC-AC Modular Multilevel Converters under Abnormal Conditions
Committee:
Dr. Saeedifard, Advisor
Dr. Graber, Chair
Dr. Harley
Abstract: The objective of the proposed research is to address the open-switch failure detection/location and post-fault operation of the MMCs. The proposed research includes: (1) dynamic and steady-state models of the MMCs to calculate their internal variables under normal and SM failure conditions; (2) open-switch failure detection methods; (3) post-fault strategies and corresponding circulating current suppression methods subsequent to bypassing the faulty SMs; (4) post-fault strategies when the converter is subjected to input-side abnormalities.
