Full Summary: WREK 91.1 FM’s venerable, eclectic show “Lost in the Stacks” will present the first-ever stage performance of the program, “Lost in the Stacks Live!,” Tuesday, March 1 at 7:30 p.m. at Eddie’s Attic in downtown Decatur.Lost in the Stacks – the one-and-only Research Library Rock ’n’ Roll radio show, produced by the Georgia Tech Library and WREK Atlanta – is known for its off-kilter mix of library talk and music, as hosts Ameet Doshi and Charlie Bennett free-associate an hour of music, interviews and library talk every Friday for lunch.For the live event, Doshi and Bennett picked a theme – “Georgia Blood and Southern Love” – to highlight the rock-and-roll sensibility of Lost in the Stacks and bring together some of their favorite Atlanta and Georgia-based writers, scholars and musicians for a celebration of local writing and music.For Bennett, it’s a natural progression for the show.“I love the idea of being in the room with a band and connecting with the audience face-to-face, and it seemed like we should go for a more immediate, visceral theme, so … blood and love,” he said.“Georgia Blood and Southern Love” will feature in-person interviews with: Augusta crime writer Brian Panowich, whose first novel, “Bull Mountain,” was one of Amazon’s Best Books of the Year in 2015; Hollis Gillespie, an award-winning humor writer, Atlanta columnist, and writing teacher; and Dr. Monica C. Miller, Assistant Director of the Writing and Communication Program at the Georgia Institute of Technology and a Flannery O’Connor scholar.Atlanta blues band Chickens and Pigs, led by singer-songwriter Jeff Evans, will provide the trademark, thematically connected, music sets. The band will kick off the evening with an opening two-song set, followed by additional sets in between the guest interviews and a final, closing piece. The AJC Decatur Book Festival is sponsoring the event.Lost in the Stacks, on-air since 2010, has broadcast more than 280 episodes on subjects as disparate as bookbinding and the moon landing, preserving digital audio and typography, and oceanography and bicycles, approaching each as a chance to speak informally on the role of information, libraries and archives.
