There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Functionally the new site is identical to the old one. webteam@gatech.edu

Simulation of Gravitational Wave Merger

Visualization of the first binary black black hole coalescence discovered, GW150914, which was announced on February 11, 2016. The two black holes are in orbit around each other, getting closer together, losing energy to gravitational waves, seen here as colored contours. The two white spheres are the black holes, colored white for visibility. The image was taken from a binary/simulation that was created by Georgia Tech's team, including Matt Kinsey, Karan Jani and Michael Clark.
